Spotting the Gap: Two Brothers in Halifax
Yorkshire Cleaning Fabrics Limited (YCF) was established in 1972 in Halifax by two brothers who spotted a clear gap in the market for knitting stockinette and dishcloths. They dedicated their production to serving industry, the motor trade, and the wide array of commercial stockinette users across the United Kingdom.
Stockinette as the Foundation for a Wider Range
Stockinette, or mutton cloth as it is often called, has been good to YCF and remains one of the core products we manufacture today. It also served as the natural springboard into a much broader portfolio of janitorial textiles, mopping systems, and industrial wiping products — manufactured directly here in the UK and supplemented by trusted global partners.
Maintaining Our Halifax Manufacturing Base
While many suppliers transitioned purely to importing, YCF takes immense pride in maintaining its active manufacturing and converting base at Drakes Industrial Estate in Ovenden, Halifax. As an accredited member of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA), we guarantee audited cloth weights, roll lengths, and material integrity.
Incorporation of Farrar Brothers (Farbro) Brushware
In 2017, YCF incorporated the respected brush and hardware sundries line of Farrar Brothers (Farbro) into the business. Integrating Farbro brush-setting, stocks, and hardware assembly into our Halifax mill allowed YCF to deliver a complete suite of traditional brooms, sweeps, and industrial cleaning hardware.

Today, YCF continues to look after customers throughout the United Kingdom and as far afield as Canada and the United Arab Emirates. We combine over 50 years of technical textile experience with responsive customer service, bulk wholesale terms, and bespoke private label conversion.
